In this research we have collected the data of the present production of flax in the world and in Slovenia, focusing on
Bela krajina, a region where the production of flax fibre and the manufacturing of flax products is a part of cultural
heritage. We have compared two cultivars for the stem and seed productivity and quality of fibres – the Slovene
autochthonous flax from Bela krajina with the Laura cultivar from the Common Catalogue of EU. The research of
technological properties was carried out in the last ten years at the experimental field of the Biotechnical Faculty. The
quality properties of flax fibres were measured in the laboratory of the Faculty for Natural Sciences and Engineering
(Department of Textiles) of the University in Ljubljana (Slovenia).
