7owadays increasing amounts of water are used as a cooling medium in cooling systems in almost every branch of industry. Cooling systems undergo an increasing number of cycles of the cooling medium, which increases the concentration of dissolved salts in it. This results in the increase in the demands concerning the performances of hardness and corrosion stabilizers. The usage of hardness and corrosion stabilizers based on heavy metals is restricted by environmental regulations. In many parts of the world larger amounts of inorganic phosphates is also restricted. In response to these restrictions, certain organic compounds are more and more used as hardness and corrosion stabilizers. This study deals with researching the possibilities of using certain organic compounds as hardness and corrosion stabilizers. The mechanism of their action and dangerous performances of each of them have also been investigated.
